Overview

• We’re looking for a product-minded engineering leader to manage an established team of Senior+ engineers. You’d manage folks like Ben, Linna, and Jon.
• You would own a large roadmap of product and engineering projects, comprising our most visible, customer-facing properties including the entire remediation/triage experience.
• Given our early stage, you would be a key contributor during the company’s regular strategic planning meetings and also be relied on to help our company evolve its culture as we navigate growth.

What We Do

Our core product protects the employees of an organization from phishing. The platform analyzes emails sent to the organization’s employees and remediates malicious messages with incredible accuracy and speed.

Behind this dashboard is our detection platform, our first-party DSL for writing detection rules (MQL — “Message Query Language”), ML classification models, external services and functions like WHOIS lookup and headless browsing, and more. The entire detection platform is backed by a git-based system for version control that makes it easy to reason about individual detection techniques, collaborate with others, and manage which detection policies are active in a customer’s environment.

Why is this important?

Phishing is a means by which an attacker gains access to something they shouldn’t have access to. Think about what inappropriate access could mean to your past employers, your state government, or to non-profit organizations you care about. The impact from real phishing attacks includes:

• disrupting coronavirus research
• impacting a US presidential election
• damaging a country’s national defense

The Role

You would manage a full-stack team of senior+ engineers — 3 frontend engineers, 2 backend, and 1 full-stack.

Domain ownership is something we expect will evolve over time, given our company’s early stage. That said, for now your areas of ownership would include:

• Remediation Experience — This includes the entire Sublime Dashboard, which is the face of the detection platform. The Dashboard is used by a customer’s security team to set up Sublime’s various capabilities.
• Customer Signup/Onboarding — Friction in our Signup or Onboarding flows directly affects revenue, so optimizing these experiences in our product is vital. These are complex parts of the product! Our customers trust us with production email access, so making these flows easy requires expertise and care.
• Growth Properties — Our homepage itself is managed by our design and marketing team, but we have several other important micro-applications. Examples include our Public Detection Engine Overview, Labs (a self-guided course to learn MQL), and the Analyzer (a standalone application to let potential customers drag-and-drop an email to see how Sublime would process it, without needing to sign up for an account).
